In October 2008 and on the instructions of a Municipal transport company, DDM dismantled 16 trams and transported these to various waste processing sites. The trams had made their last journey on the tracks to the tram depot in Diemen. After DDM Demontage had stripped and divided the trams and removed the asbestos, the DDM Transport division was able to take them on their final journey, in three parts, by road. Using an 85 ton/metre truck-mounted crane, the three top sections were loaded onto the semi low loaders and transported to the recycling plant. The tractor unit, with the 85 ton/metre crane, loaded its own trailer full with the remaining undercarriages and then transported these to the recycling plant. The trams had seen their best times and were ready to be replaced by new, more modern trams, which can now be seen in the city centres and suburbs. The ideal means of transport for a narrow, inaccessible city centre.
