For one of its regular clients DDM organised the transport and temporary interim storage of four cylinders. The cylinders were 26.5 metres long and weighed 34.5 tons, each! In the middle of June 2008 the first two cylinders were loaded, in Boxtel, onto 4-axle triple-extendable trailers using two telescopic cranes. The cylinders were unloaded at DDM’s yard in De Meern where they were put into temporary storage. At the end of June 2008 the last two cylinders were collected from the manufacturer and were also placed into temporary storage with the first two cylinders, awaiting the special onward journey... At the end of July the world’s largest freight plane landed at Schiphol, the Antonov 225. This was the new destination for the cylinders. Antonov 225 was brought into action especially for the last stage of the transport, with final destination China. DDM delivered the four cylinders to Schiphol, all at the same time, and loaded them onto the plane using cranes.
