DDM sponsored Excavator for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
After we heard about the earthquake in Haiti in the beginning of 2010, we immediately started thinking if we could do anything for the people there, since we own several kinds of equipment, they might be able to use them there.
After getting in contact with a local organization, we established that they preferred to use their local manpower and we would lend an excavator for their use, free of charge for a year.
We started arranging transport from De Meern where DDM has its main office.
It took quite a while before we managed to get the excavator in Haiti. From De Meern we transported the machine to Antwerpen, from there the machine had to pass the Bahamas.
There was a storm at the Bahamas when the excavator was there. Fortunately the machine did not get damaged in the storm. There was some damage in the harbor which resulted in the delay of the transport. About 2 weeks later the transport from the Bahamas to Haiti started. The 26th of May 2010 the machine finally arrived in Haiti.

The locals are working with the excavator at this moment to demolish buildings that are already damaged severely and are very grateful they can use the machine!
At this moment we are discussing how to go on, since the time period of 1 year is expired.
For this short period we extended the contract until we’ve made arrangements.
