Directly through Wageningen with gigantic steam boilers
Date January 2009
Used equipment Euro low loaders with a capacity of up to 70 tons
Special features adimensions and height of the boilers, with a route directly through the city
DDM Transport was awarded the contract to transport two gigantic boilers (4.1 metres wide and as much as 5.7 metres high) from the Havenseweg in Wageningen to Ede. The boilers, weighing 58 and 41 tons, were transported by two Euro low loaders. Prior to undertaking the transport the boilers were lifted from a ship by crane and loaded onto the trucks on the Havenseweg, after which the various escort vehicles could guide then on their way. The permits had been acquired to allow the transport to drive directly through the city from 10:00 am. After reviewing the route, the hulks took to the road. After a brief and successful journey of approximately 15 kilometres, the Euro low loaders arrived at their final destination in Ede. The route was very unusual because, due to the height of the boilers and the fact that there had to be no overhead obstructions, it had to go directly through the residential areas. The “normal” traffic had to be a little patient with us and extreme precision and escorting was required. You don’t see this type of transport pass by your house every day... and the convoy drew a great deal of attention.
